James Howells [twitter bio](https://twitter.com/howelzy) reads “BTC: Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash, since #4334”.
Block (https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/4334) was mined on February 15, 2009 and it was the first coinbase [received](https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/0f0fbcc18fd0d090ad3402574df8404cec1176bc000f9aa0dc19f8d832ff94db) by this address. The address has mined a total of 8,000 BTC over a period of two months between February and April 2009. After that there’s no activity except for incoming dust attacks. It’s among the oldest inactive addresses with zero spent.
Most early users lost their coins without seed phrase or proper backups when BTC was still in beta and had no value in those early days. At least James still has a small hope of recovering his wallet file.
He recently enlisted help from NASA, some hedge funds and a team of AI and environmental experts to start a 12 month long rescue operation. If successful, he has pledged to use the money to help the community of Newport, South Wales and invest in community owned BTC mining facility.Saturday, August 20th, 2022 at 17:44 #358444Optimal_Store
I sincerely hope he finds it but I think the chances of that happening at this point are slimSaturday, August 20th, 2022 at 17:44 #358456gimmedatcrypto

Since the blockchain is ultimately, infinitely transparent, shouldn’t there be a way to claim these funds even without your lost keys?Saturday, August 20th, 2022 at 17:44 #358454UndesirableWaffle

I recently watched a video about James Howells’ case: *Richard Hammond meets the man that threw away $250 MILLION into a landfill!*
It is a sad story but he is determined to get back his stash, which is currently worth around $181 million.
