You can also [read this on Medium](https://ausaf-rashid.medium.com/investing-in-apecoin-is-a-bad-idea-heres-why-d896c27bc385), with better formatting.
Ape coin is trending all over the place, so now would be a good time to look at the past performance of popular memecoins and see why it’s a bad idea to ape into Apecoin.
“But that dogecoin guy became a millionaire by investing his life savings in cute doggo token”. Well here’s a chart for Dogecoin.
[DOGE\/BTC Chart | Binance | Heikin Ashi](https://preview.redd.it/1mrvbri4ldo81.png?width=1020&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e3b93bea732d7693b0f879eb7a82ad0d74d4618)
No surprises here. Dogecoin has been bleeding against BTC for almost a year now. That means, investors who bought doge, took an **incredibly** higher risk(than btc investors) and got **worse** returns. I can’t think of any financial asset with worse risk-adjusted-returns. In short, if you’re investing in altcoins, you would want your alt to perform as well as BTC or better since they are inherently riskier.
Here’s a similar story for Shiba Inu:
[SHIB\/BTC Chart | Binance | Heikin Ashi](https://preview.redd.it/vk43wo69ndo81.png?width=1180&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdd403bf08f3138d87b8d1bfa75a9865f3d6cbba)
As seen in the previous chart, we can see an initial few days of hype, and then a continuous bleed against BTC.
Now is probably the worst time to invest in highly speculative assets. The terrible Russia-Ukraine war is happening, and the global economy and supply chains are heavily affected due to that. Taking an excessive amount of financial risk at this moment is the last thing you’d want to do.
Lastly, if you’re playing the short term game, you have already lost. Like all financial markets, crypto will transfer wealth from the impatient to the patient investor.
TLDR: Don’t buy ApeCoin or any meme-coins. You’re likely going to regret it.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182774deathtolucky

I would argue that it’s fine to buy ApeCoin or memecoins **with a portion of your portfolio**. Is it advisable to YOLO in 100% of your savings? Probably not.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182764Spicysquidsalad
Oh ya, Doge and shiba are definitely a gamble but hey that’s fine, I think most people know that going in
Ape… this just screams hardcore pyramid schemeSaturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182765CafeDePlaya
Investing in memecoins is akin to buying lottery tickets, maybe you’re lucky and hit jackpot, but more often than not you won’tSaturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182766anon43850
Generalizing every memecoin is not the right approach IMO.
Some memecoins are great for experimenting with Crypto technology and a gateway to newcomers.
Just don’t go all in into a memecoin and you’re fineSaturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182767Bobingie
If you don’t have a meme coin in your portfolio then YNGMI fren. These will always pump harder than everything in your portfolio. Just need to know when to sell.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182768SosCulero

Ummm this is true. Except for Banano. Best meme coin I’ve ever seen. I’m not even a bag holder, I have like 46 BAN LOL. Just think it’s cool what they are doing.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182771Kappaswagxx420xx
I like to say if it has a meme name and isnt popular it has a chance to blow up for a few days but if youre too late with it dont botherSaturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182772Yogicorgi
Friendly reminder: OPs that post advice about not investing in memecoins are likely holding “real project” bags and need you to direct your investments to “real projects”.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182773andrew_baseball21
Correction: blindly investing in meme-coins is a bad idea. I was careful and in the end, cashed out of ApeCoin with a 15% gain. With SHIB made 800%. Just don’t buy in at an ATH blindly and expect a lambo.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182763WizerOne

Been in crypto since 2017, every year or so the chart looks like that first one, then in moons again and all the peaks and valleys end up looking totally flat. I’m mostly eth with a smattering of other coins, but if you don’t think you can still make a pile on doge / whatever other meme coin, then you don’t believe in crypto.
When bitcoin goes to 500k, you really think dogecoin is gonna stay flat? Shit will 100x.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182778shiny_mushroom69
You don’t “invest” in meme coins. You lose money on them.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182779DanielABush97
The global economy and supply chains were an issue well before this Russia-Ukraine matter. Stop blaming gas prices, inflation, and low supply on Russia and Ukraine.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182780ieatyourmomass

Someone here pls confirm. In my opinion, such BS pontifications like this post doesn’t help anyone. Infact, anyone that has done the exact opposite of what this sub suggests and pontificates about are sitting very pretty.

Friendly reminder : Investing in memecoins is RISKY, and should be done CAREFULLY.
It’s not a bad idea, many people get amazing trades on memecoins, some even get to their first million.
But the risks are high and I believe over 70 80% people or even more ends losing money.Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at 20:25 #182751Past-Top-3954
I don’t know about you but I’m extremely up on Doge. With Ape bought a shit ton when it was at 7 a token sold it at 75% increase not mad. Will never use ape and find it to be bullshit. I do believe in doge.
