Monero is a cryptocurrency focused on privacy. Transactions on the Monero blockchain can’t be tracked or traced. Monero uses a proof of work consensus algorithm to issue new coins and secure transactions.

- Overwhelming the network During a transaction, monero uses key images. Key images could not be reused so there is a defined number of keys. Is it possible to overhelmed the network of small transaction and make it crash because there will not be enough keys? Thank you for further explanation

- CEX Monero squeeze incomming! We need to stop CEXs papertrading monero and sooner or later it will happen. At one point, they will have so less of our precious monero that they need buy them all in the market from other users 'credits' so they can payout people that they have to pump the price by themselves. Their strategie to let government ban this coin so they don't need to buyback won't happen if we are faster! Take part in the next and probably last monerorun before the squeeze. We do a monerorun in 2 weeks on Dez 15. Tell your friends, even if they only have 0.01 XMR. Every Monero holder is important for this movement, tell them how important it is. Take part of one of the greatest crypto movements in history! Dez. 15 is the day. Upvote and share!

- Is Monero double spend resistant? Hello I am concern about if Monero can be double spend before having a confirmation, I use BTC Cash and it has 0-conf cause it follows the rule "first seen, first included" means that when you broadcast the transaction, the miners will include the first transaction that was broadcast to the network, and now it has double spend proofs. Does monero has something similar or I need to wait for at least 1 confirmation? TLDR: does Monero have 0-confirmation transactions, or it can be double spend before having the first confirmation?

- How to get the balance of my monero wallet remotely? I need to be able to check and display the balances of a bunch of Monero wallets/accounts which I've created locally, on a remote VPS. The private keys of those accounts will remain on my local computer only. I don't run a full node -- I'm using public RPC services instead. How to get a balance of an account without a private key and full node? Is there a way?

- I’m losing my mind trying to create a local node!!! HELP ME PLEASE. I have been trying for over 4 hours! I tried to follow [this](https://youtu.be/XonyYxjjfcg) video and [this](https://youtu.be/MPulgMLJ2Ls) video. Neither works. I dont understand. Whenever I try to start daemon in the GUI Wallet, it keeps timing out because it’s unable to connect in 120 seconds??? I tried to create the whole daemon appimage thing by following those videos but everytime I type the commands IT DOES NOT POP UP. I saw this one button on the monero website “Download Blockchain” so that’s what i’m doing but it’s taking a long time (which is understandable… it’s a huge file) I really don’t want to use a public remote node. Idk what’s going on. I literally tried to follow those two different tutorials nothing worked. I looked at previous posts here… NOTHING WORKS.

- XMR for remittances I recently found out about remittance services like Taptap Send, which, while quick, apparently are not that cheap (I presume the exchange rates aren't great as there does not appear to be fees). How easy would it be to use XMR for this purpose? Is XMR relatively easy to exchange for local currency in places like West Africa and South Asia? Does localmonero operate everywhere?

- Can privacy be universal? I was just thinking about Monero for a second and I wondered if it would truly be possible for world governments to accept monero which 1. They cannot control 2. They cannot survey 3. They cannot trace. Monero being a morally neutral machine would ve used for absolutely anything. It can fund a vigilante organization as well as a terrorist group. It can fund charity as well as a scam. It can fund the sale of harmful drugs as well as beneficial drugs that probably shouldn't be illegal. Can society really function on the use of Monero if nothing can be traced or identified, whatsoever? Or will Monero forever be just a "dark net" currency for discrete commerce? Also what do you guys think about the possibilty that central banks around the world will abandon the Dollar or resuscitate it by launching a "Brettonwoods 3.0"? This was an idea forwarded by Frank Giustra. He thought it was likely that many world governments and banks would eventually create a new digital CBDC which will be pegged once again to gold. Do you find this likely? or unlikely? I love Monero, but I can't help but have these speculative thoughts. You guys have any interesting opinions on what may ultimately happen to Monero in the future?

- An idea for sound money The current boom and bust of crypto has been fueled by easy money. The idea behind crypto is usually sound but the weakest link is unlimited recycling of crypto, leading to price manipulation by marginal traders . What if the recycling rate is limited within a certain time? The actual value of crypto would be properly reflected by real owners, instead of small amount of crypto traded between entity to manipulate price. I think the best place to discuss it is Monero. I strongly believed it would enhance the storage value of Monero as sound money.

- Crypto donation campaign – XMR not accepted I found this website https://thegivingblock.com/ of which I think is a good idea to make cryptocurrencies shine in a better light to the uninformed public. And also it is a good think to help others you are able to give. Unfortunately they do not accept donations in XMR. Even if you can support causes like freedom. I think it is very very important that someone can make a donation anon. Because remember what happened with those truckers in Canada. You never know if in the future your supported cause will suddenly be unwelcome. - Why they do not accept XMR? - What can we do so they will accept XMR? My idea is to maybe start a petition or a mass mail from our community to make them aware of the importance of real privacy.

- LibertyTown uses PCASH instead of XMR One of the best parts of the Monero community is that we can look at good coins and piece of garbage coins and learn from all of them. Even ZCash, with all of it's trash "features," is helping push forward ZK tech that could be useful to XMR someday, and we should remain humble to remain the best. In keeping with this, I'd like to copy/paste from the [https://libertown.org](https://libertown.org) marketplace on why they use PCASH instead of XMR to see if there are aspects of this coin (about which I know almost nothing) we could emulate as well as to discuss aspects of the coin that maybe sound good in theory but are actually not a good idea. Here is their reasoning: >Why PANDORA CASH and not Monero? > >PANDORA CASH has a stronger anonymity set than Monero, allowing the generation of Anonymity Sets up to 256 instead of up to 16, as Monero does. PANDORA CASH is 16 times more anonymous in theory than Monero. > >Because Monero's wallet is UTXO, you must download the entire Blockchain, which weighs more than 140GB, in order to anonymously decrypt your balance without using a trusted middleman. Because PCASH uses encrypted accounts, you can sync your wallet by downloading only 65 bytes. > >The PANDORA CASH ecosystem is multi-asset. Therefore, you are able to create tokens in this ecosystem. New assets could be created like wrapped BTC/ETH/DAI, which enables atomic swap to anonymize your original tokens. When it comes to enabling future anonymous cryptocurrency payments, this feature is crucial. > >The anonymity of users can be at risk in Monero if an attacker runs a large-scale attacks exploiting Dust and Transactions Spam. These exploits had been studied and they present a real danger to all Cryptonote based privacy coins. These attacks are not possible in PANDORA CASH as it is resistant to dust and transactions spam attacks. Since PCASH uses Homomorphic Encrypted Account it is not vulnerable to UTXO based attacks. > >Numerous actors who rented a lot of computation power for a short time attacked several POW blockchains. Double spending is a risk with Monero because it uses POW consensus. A novel POS consensus used by PANDORA CASH makes 51% POW attacks impossible. > >Transactions are prunable with PANDORA CASH. This means the blockchain's size can be reduced without compromising the data. > >Since PCASH is a new player on the market, there is a lot of room for growth. This plays to its advantage also for early users. I have almost zero knowledge about PCASH, so no idea if the claims above are true. Questions: 1. **Why is account-based worse then UTXO-based?** As someone who is not very savvy with account-based cryptos, I do hear a lot of good things made possible like their true and serious scalability/pruning as well as super fast sync times, both of which are mentioned here. Can someone explain why an account-based "version" of Monero would be bad? I know that would be a different coin entirely and not actually Monero, but you see what I'm asking. 2. **Is there a better (more efficient) anonymity set system in PCASH?** Monero is headed towards a larger anon set but with fairly large transaction sizes. Is there anything in PCASH (like FIRO) we can use to better the way Monero does this? 3. **POS vs POW?** We have beat this dead horse already, so let's keep it limited: is there anything PCASH does that is actually *novel* in how their POS works that makes it better than others? The light-weight chain, serious prunability, fast sync times, and anonymity set are all things we can agree are good on paper and would love to see in Monero in an ideal world, but I don't know if any of this can be implemented in the Monero framework. Bonus question: I know Monero, *theoretically*, is still sort of somewhat susceptible to dusting attacks, and Mobilecoin and ZCash have each implemented ways to avoid that attack. Is this something that needs work in Monero to be on par with these other coins in this one regard?

- What is the most efficient way to sell monero? What other coins are as secure as monero? Basically what the title asks. Say if I’m requesting some monero from someone and they send it, what is the easiest and quickest way to sell it without losing much? I might get violated for this but what are some other secure cryptocurrencies which I/others can send/receive and buy/sell with ease? I have been using signal for messaging and they offer mobilecoin as payment methods on their app. Anyone know if this is any good? Seems relatively easy to use. I also had a quick browse and saw that Zcash and DASH are good secure cryptos. For this question I’m just looking for some opinions and recommendations, I understand I’ll have to do more research to see what suits me. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Bet on the last digit of the next block hash and win monero 100% fair game since 2018. Next for the site will be increased maximum bet amounts and later on a new game also based on block hashes to keep it 100% unrigged. Any game ideas / feedback is very much appreciated. Have fun!

- How to run a node over Tor on Ubuntu? Hey guys I'm trying to setup my own remote node on Ubuntu over Tor. So far I tried running a Whonix Virtual machine on my Ubuntu mini PC, and in it I run the monero GUI wallet. But the node randomly stops after 1-2h and I need to start it again. Do you guys have a better method for my plans? Or should I consider trying this over windows instead Ubuntu? I'm out of idea to get it to work and would appreciate any help from the community. Thanks in advance 🙏🏽

- What is the long term role of Monero? Hi. I'm a noob so please forgive me if I sound ignorant. I live in South Korea. Monero and all other "private" tokens were all banned from exchanges years ago as a measure against tax evasion. To this day any privacy token is not available in any Korean exchanges. Sure there may be local buyers and sellers like otc exchanges but those are rare and unpopular. I can still use kraken or binance to trade xmr, however I would never be able to use it in Korea. Korea has announced crypto capital gains taxation at 20% of any gains beyond a set initial investment. I find it likely that soon enough the government will render any amount of monero purchased by Korean users on binance fully taxable or outright illegal. Eventually. Considering these possibilities I wanted to hear the thoughts of the monero community. What is the contingency plan and actual role of monero going to be in the future when regulators eventually do enact draconian measures to tax and trace every crypto in existence? Wouldn't the mere ownership of privacy tokens like Monero, leave alone its trading, be banned outright or considered a criminal felony? If so, wouldn't Monero be only used in black markets and DEXes that governments will try their best to impede or outlaw? Wouldn't Monero's role be contained reduced only to those few markets and vendors who discretely accept monero? If I were to invest in XMR as a long play, betting on the eventual default of existing fiat currencies, how would I be able to sell that XMR and convert it into actual fiat to use in society without being asked - "where are these funds from?" or is XMR planning to never be exchanged for fiat at all, and somehow be *the* digital currency that governments around the world will somehow accept rather than aggressively stamp out?

- Blockchain is just one huge 150+GB file on my hard drive?? This seems kinda sketchy. Wouldn't it make more sense to at least provide an option for file size limits, and default it to say 500MB? A directory full of 500MB files would seem more manageable than one 150GB file.

- Metamask starts collecting User IP Addresses **Source**: [MetaMask will start collecting user IP addresses (cointelegraph.com)](https://cointelegraph.com/news/metamask-will-start-collecting-user-ip-addresses/amp)This seems not to be a good sign when big wallet organization grows big enough and start to insert the dominating decision on the Current Users. What are your opinions why they made such decision? https://preview.redd.it/mgh3idimwm2a1.png?width=840&format=png&auto=webp&s=70b57a918544f6ea7d2fcabe9b1bccf4351edd34 My perspectives: * They know users are hesitated to move funds around, so maybe they know we won't stop our subscription to Metamask even when they decided to collect IP Data. * Switching to XMR network and other Privacy Networks is a good choice. * Maybe it's time to think of other alternative wallets to hold XMR, BTC, ETH and other privacy tokens too. [Image of wallet on www.incognito.org](https://preview.redd.it/ctzvqu4bzm2a1.png?width=252&format=png&auto=webp&s=ced556167aa43f5464b019491da7b8c0fcb23928) I'm using Incognito for the replacing purpose. - I dont understand nodes.. Kinda have an idea about it… But I want to make my own monero node (monero gui wallet) because I heard public remote nodes aren’t safe. I searched up tutorials on yt on how to make my own but i’m confused on if I do it in tails?… I use a usb with tails on it. Im about to buy a 1TB flash drive because I also heard it requires a lot of storage making your own node? Im not interested in making it public, i just want to have it for myself. The dnm bible doesn’t even talk about it… I thought after i followed every on that bible, i was set, but after doing more research, I want to be extra safe so i want to create my own node. Tia

- Security implications of my node I'm trying to run my own node on Ubuntu server, but there is a lot of information on the web about risks of making a public node or opening ports. I want my node for: a) contribute to the network b) be able to connect to it (remotely) from my mobile wallet so I don't need to trust any 3rd party node. I'm already running the node, but I want to know what options and arguments should I use, if I need to open ports and if this represent any risks. I haven't any personal or sensitive data on the disk, I'm only running the Ubuntu server. What should I do?

- Open-source self-hosted payment processor BitcartCC adds Monero support Hi! My open-source payment processor has now implemented monero support for our developer SDK and merchants solutions. You host it on your own server and can connect it to any daemon RPC or your own node. The difference from other solutions is that it can work with unlimited number of wallets in parallel, in different stores of different users, all on 1 instance! Other solutions require wallet-rpc installed and fully synced for only 1 wallet per server. Instead, BitcartCC requires only daemon RPC url. It is light-weight by default, but you can switch it to any other RPC or your full node's one. It uses integrated addresses for processing payments, parsing blockchain live via secret viewkey provided. P.S. Has no \`unlock\_time\` bug (: Github: [https://github.com/bitcartcc/bitcart](https://github.com/bitcartcc/bitcart) Website: [https://bitcartcc.com](https://bitcartcc.com/) https://preview.redd.it/ux3lg0t29c2a1.png?width=541&format=png&auto=webp&s=6886b718a96a8674a99b9c32369fb01f80bdc3d4 https://preview.redd.it/fnn4dkbq9c2a1.jpg?width=592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f90b7714d9a7ebf0b00b0b8f41d7bd30817dd26 https://preview.redd.it/isp4b6cr9c2a1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d79704331616a8cfd713e0fd1cf9849d4473ca27

- Rebuilding Ukraine with Monero! ***^(\*Trigger warning\*)*** Do you support Monero? Ukraine and Monero? Or You don't care and just wanna spread som fukery? Donating XMR to help rebuild Ukraine is a fast and effective way to help get Monero politically & culturally noticed by one of the most followed governments taking part in one of the most talked-about conflicts in the world: * **Rebuild Ukraine w/ XMR:** [***https://u24rebuild.pay.whitepay.com***](https://u24rebuild.pay.whitepay.com/) * **What you are donating for:** [*https://u24.gov.ua/needs*](https://u24.gov.ua/needs) ^(\*) *^(UNITED24 was launched by the President of Ukraine as the main venue for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine. \*)* We coul'd easily get into top 5 donated crypto to Ukraine: That woul'd get Ukraine's support 100%! Maybe even a 'thank you xmr' tweet from Zelensky or his team? Woul'd be a strong message for US and European governments regarding our community and our beloved privacy coin. But what do you think? Any level-headed thoughts on this ?

- [Warning] Incoming payments can confirmed but locked on protocol level forever This started by ticket opened by Mochi101 who obviously care about Monero and community all around. Mochi101 created ticket about bug in MajeticBank swap system that hadn't detected that we allowed locked transfer to be processed and send outgoing payments while We stay hadn't checked very important field of incoming payment -> unlocked\_time that describes when the payment will be actually available for receiver to spend. Within 2 hours of ticket created I was aware of the bug and our incident response team was on high alert. 3 Hours after the report was made the vulnerability was fixed and 50% of bug bounty was issued to Mochi101 and within next 9 hours I made sure 100% of bug bounty price was paid to Mochi101 and he was offered permanent job at MajesticBank as part of security response team. From that point on we decided to play smart and hadn't disclosed bug to anyone rather we tested swap systems widely used and available in Monero community and made sure this "slightly" documented thing don't give bad name to Monero and don't discourage other swap from providing Monero services in future. You know what we discovered ? Our top competitors ChangeNow and FixedFloat were both affected including a lot of other swap sites (infinity, exch and others) . We didn't blink an eye, everyone was contacted within few hours with proof of concept and URGENT email to fix the vulnerability. Must say they didn't issue any bug bounty to us however vulnerability is patched and that's what we care about. This unexpected behavior can lead to receiving monero funds that are confirmed but locked on blockchain for unlimited time on protocol level. Selsta made sure next update of monero-rpc documentation point warning about this. Locked transfer can be created using wallet-cli locked\_transfer command. Thanks Mochi101 for putting his time on this one. MajesticBank will also represent community best interest now and in future, everyone who report bugs to us will be awarded accordingly. Two developers works at MajesticBank security response team permanently because of reporting bugs in the system so far, so finding critical bugs can make yourself permanent income. We should be responsible everyday and give example to others to show Monero community is not just about profit but rather fairness and helpfulness to everyone involved around Monero community.

- Not really sure why/what I’m saying I believe in Monero. I believe that it's the one true currency for personal freedom. And even if I knew how to crack the algorithm, the IRS and their bounty can FOAD. That much I know. Despite not owning any because I'm broke asf... Thanks to the system. What the Monero logo represents is more than enough reason to tattoo the logo on my own skin. I am a tattoo artist, fyi. I guess I'm posting because I'm curious if there's a chance at Monerotary gain... through the dev or support through the community. Either way, my skin will bear the logo. I'd post my XMR deposit address, but I have no desire to ruffle any feathers or be banned from the forum category, as I respect and appreciate this community. Idk if it's against the rules or not, didn't see anything about it, but playing on the safe side. If it's not against the rules, I will post my address when I post my work. I don't have any stickers and enjoy seeing them placed around the world, so I guess you could say this is my contribution to the movement towards personal and financial freedom. Have a great day everyone!

- How many times will an output be used as a decoy Is there information available about how many times an output will be used a a decoy on average within a given time period, let's say 1 year after the output has been created? Like 5 times? Or 50? Or maybe 0? Is there any way to find this information about the outputs in your wallets? With Feather I can see my individual coins (and I've read that's also possible with the cli wallet) and sometimes I want to spend from a specific output. Would be nice to see which had been used as a decoy the most times.

The last commit i see on github was 3 months ago and theres problems with it today. It seems due to IPV4/6 address handling, NodeJS >17 is breaking [monero-javascript](https://github.com/monero-ecosystem/monero-javascript). Its been a week since the issue was discovered. Can someone fix this? See thread: https://github.com/monero-project/monero/issues/8646 https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/40702#issuecomment-966968102
